May 30th, 1997: New version 1.1!

System requirements

The VW Theme Pack requires Windows '95 as well as the Windows '95 Plus! Pack. If you do not have the Plus! Pack then you will not be able to use desktop themes.

Download!

The theme file is 914K zipped, and will take around 8 minutes to download on a 28.8 modem (if you're lucky!)

Installation Instructions

  1. Use an unzip program capable of long file names, such as WinZipthis link leaves vanagon.com to extract the theme files to a subdirectory of your MS Plus! themes directory. This is very important due to the way Windows 95 stores theme file locations. For example, my copy is located in c:\win95\plus\themes\volkswagen.

    Select the 'Themes' control panel...

  2. Go to the Win95 Control Panel by clicking on the Start Menu, then Settings, then Control Panel. Select the Desktop Themes applet (if you don't have Plus! installed, you will not see this and you will not be able to use this theme.)

Choose 'Other' from the list of themes...

  3. Choose "Other..." from the list of available themes.

    Choose the VW.theme file...

  4. You will be returned to the initial Desktop Themes window. Select the theme elements you wish to apply from the list, then press Apply or OK to implement the changes.

  5. Congratulations! You're done!

Problems?

Before sending me a problem, please check your Windows 95 Plus! documentation. Chances are your question will be answered there. If that fails, ask your technical support rep, computer guru, or your son/daughter. If you think you still have a problem, then ask me. Send mail to buran@avn.net with a return address and a clear description of your problem.

Redistribution terms

Feel free to redistribute this theme on disk, via BBS, or the Internet. However, you must include all of the files you recieved in the original zip file (vwtheme.zip) as well as this message, which must remain completely intact. You may modify the theme as you see fit on your personal installation, but publicly-distributed copies must retain this original configuration.

Neither Jennifer Sarantites nor vanagon.com is responsible for any damage incurred while using this theme, especially if you didn't scan it for viruses before using it.

All that said, we hope you enjoy it!

Notes

Note (4/25/97):
Some of the sounds may reference to themes you haven't installed. This is because I don't have enough sounds or cursors to make this a standalone theme yet. Feel free to submit cursors and icons. In the meantime, you can solve the problem by making sure you have all of the themes distributed with Plus! installed on your system or by manually changing all of the cursor and sound references to cursors and sounds that you do have installed.

Note (4/22/97):
This theme is incomplete. I haven't been able to find many good sounds for it, so if you have more you'd like to see included, please let me know.

A good screen saver for use with this theme can be downloaded from The Volkswagen Shrinethis link leaves vanagon.com. It is customizable and can be made to display any image you like.

Yes, I did do the psychedelic VW logo that's used for a background. :) Feel free to send me your comments. I also did some (but not all) of the icons.

Not all of the files in this theme are actually used in the default setup. Feel free to tweak your personal copy to your liking.
