The Carrier
VW manufactured a spare tire carrier for the rear hatch of the Vanagon. This carrier is supposedly very sturdy, with including reinforcements to the metal of the hatch. Unfortunately, the carrier is expensive. The total cost, without installation, is around US$3000.00!
