The Shady Boy awning is a very nice awning solution for the Vanagon and EuroVan. The awning box bolts to the body of the vehicle, so that it's a permanent installation and cannot easily be stolen. When closed, the awning box is 1¼ meters (50 inches) long (about the width of the sliding door.)
When the awning is open, it folds out from it's container and is
self-supporting. That's right, 3 x 1.8 meters of shade and rain
protection with no poles to the ground! The awning is
cantilevered with solid fiberglass poles that extend from the
awning box. In high winds, the exterior corners of the awning may be
staked to the ground with supplied lines, but in non-windy
conditions, this isn't necessary.
The fabric of the awning is mildew and UV resistant and is available in assorted colors. The weight of the complete awning is approximately 6 kg, or 13¼ pounds.
