Rumours are already spreading one year before VW intends to launch its new Transporter with commercial and recreational versions in 2001. VW is expected to introduce both commercial and recreational versions of the new Transporter. It will be front-engined and rear-driven, with a four-wheel drive option. There are also plans for a pick-up Version just as the classic Bus, Multivan, Panels, and Crew Cab shapes.The leisure models and the pick-ups will be targetted at the US market.
This new platform is also expected to be the foundation of a new VW / Porsche cooperation project to build a new off-road vehicle.
Engines will range from a 'straight four' up to V6 and V8, using both diesel and gasoline fuels.
