Honduras Northbound

Apr 29	Cedeño	82 from border	From the border crossing at Guasaule we'll head north on the Panamericana to Choluteca. We'll provision in town before continuing on to Cedeño, a swimming beach on the Golfo de Fonseca. The turn-off is about halfway between Choluteca and San Lorenzo, or about 15km. This will be our last view of the Pacific before heading across the isthmus towards the Atlantic side. The next time we see the Pacific will be in Mexico.
Apr 30	Tegucigalpa	120	A short drive brings us to the capital of Honduras, set in a bowl-shaped valley surrounded by mountains. At 975m, the climate is comfortable. We'll get here early, check into a hotel, and spend the day doing sightseeing and having our laundry done. Strangely enough, there is a Shakespeare & Co. books here, carrying English-language books. (Other branches are in Berkeley and Paris.) We'll try to stay at the Nuevo Hotel Boston (T37-9411) at Av. Máximo Jeréz #321, Barrio Abajo. Rooms are US$15-17.
May 1	Tegucigalpa		A second day to rest and refresh.
May 2	Santa Bárbara	202	Today we'll continue north through Honduras, passing through the cities of Comayagua and Siguatepeque (134km, approximately 2 hours drive). We'll stop for the night at this small sleepy town.
May 3	Copán Ruinas	201	We'll continue north to the intersection with the Carretera de Occidente at Canoa, and then head southwest to La Entrada. There we'll fork west to the archeological site of Copán Ruinas. We'll camp 11km from town (towards La Entrada) at the Hotel Hacienda El Jaral (T52-4457) and ecotourism site and bird sanctuary. US$7 per site.
May 4			Today we cross into Guatemala.
