Today we'll cross over into Nicaragua from Costa Rica. Driving north, we'll come to the small crossroads of Rivas (pop. 23,000.) We'll take the 6pm ferry to Isla de Ometepe. On the first night there, we'll stay at the Cari Hotel y Marina ($12 / $25 with air conditioning) one block south of the main road on the beach. |

Today is a relaxation day. We'll relax on the island, drive around, and generally have a good time. |

León |

This morning we'll catch the 8am ferry back to Rivas, and then drive north. We'll skip Manaus entirely, stopping at the old city of León, founded 1524. Traditionally the most liberal of Nicaraguan cities, León remains the intellectual capital of the country. We'll stay at the Hotel Colonial (T311-2279), 2 1/2 blocks north of the plaza. Rooms are US$14. |
