Resetting the Oxygen Sensor light

Return to the home page

It happens every 30,000 miles. A little light comes on reminding you that it's time to have your oxygen sensor checked. For the sake of the planet and the health of your vehicle, you should. A faulty oxygen sensor can give bad data to your van's compyuter. This in turn can cause your van to consume more fuel than necessary, run rough, and otherwise operate badly.

If you want to reset this light yourself, however, it's a relatively simple procedure.

Crawl under the front of your van (by the spare tire). The counter is located about ¾ of the way down the speedometer cable under the left side of your van. It's a small black box with a couple of wires and the speedometer cable attached on both ends. On one side of the box is a shielded button.

To reset the light, use a probe (pencil, pen) to press the button until you hear or feel it click. You might need to do this several times before the light is successfully reset.
