Removing the screens

It's not very hard to remove the screens. There are 'clips' at the bottom of the screen frame that must be gently pulled back to remove the frame. If you're not gentle enough and break the clip, it's a Bad Thing since the frame won't stay in place very well without the clips.

Repairing the screens

It's also fairly straightforward to re-screen the frames. Get some fiberglass screening material from a hardware store. Cut a piece to fit the inside of the frame, then glue in place with a hot melt glue gun. Pretty straightforward.

If you decide to try using a type of plastic or other cement, make sure you test it first against the screen material and an out-of-sight part of the frame. Some glues melt some plastics.

Getting the screen to stay straight without sagging, twisting, or wrinkling is not easy. If you can find someone who can do it cheap, you may wish to have it done for you. Vanagon mailing list members have used clothespins to hold the screen (with some success.)
